President: Sandee Cooper

I’ve been a Westbriar parent & active PTA member for 4 years. My kids are 1st & 4th grade. Every year I enjoy collaborating with other Westbriar parents & Westbriar staff to make little differences in the students’ lives. My creative background & marketing experience always challenge me with new ideas to enhance the overall Westbriar school experience! Over the last few years I have chaired new events such as the Fall Festival and the President’s Challenge 5K Run/Walk. I believe the innovative, new ideas keep the energy & participation up! Please join us to continue to invigorate Westbriar!

I have been a Westbriar parent for 3 years and I have two daughters in grades 1st and 3rd. I grew up in Fairfax County and graduated from Marymount University with a degree in Business Administration. Last year I resigned from Fannie Mae as a Director of Accounting Systems to spend more time with my family. I have always enjoyed volunteering and before I had children I dedicated much of my free time to the Junior League of Washington leading fundraising events and helping to organize the National Book Festival. For the last two years I have co-chaired Family Fun Night at Westbriar and volunteered as “Room Mom” in my daughter’s class. I have also been leading my younger daughter’s Girl Scout Daisy Troop and assisting with coaching VYS soccer. I have made some wonderful friends because of Westbriar Elementary and have great respect and admiration for all the teachers and staff. My goal is to encourage more parents to get involved in the PTA and also plan fun, creative, and successful fundraisers that will insure that our children receive the best resources available to support their education.

We have been part of the Westbriar family since 2006--moving here from another part of Vienna because of the school's great reputation. I have two boys at Westbriar - one in sixth grade and one in fourth grade. After an 18-year career in the US Government, I now work for a small federal consulting firm. I have a BA in political science from GWU and an MS in Technology Management from U. of Maryland.

I believe it is every parent's responsibility to be an active partner with schools in his or her child's education. That can be volunteering in the classroom, attending PTA events, or talking to the teacher on a regular basis about what's going on in the classroom. I want to work for increased parent participation in school and PTA activities, and support PTA efforts to fund vital school programs in an era of increased county budget cuts.

I have been living in the Vienna area for 10 years, and have the privilege of being part of the Westbriar Family for 3. I have a daughter, Andrea who’s going to be in 3rd grade, and a son, David in 1st grade. I was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela and came to the US in 1993 for my Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) at Georgetown University. My professional career has ranged from being part of the Credit Committee in charge of Multinational Companies at Citibank, to Management and Financial Consultant. After a few years as a stay-at-home mom I decided to go back to work as a Realtor with Long & Foster, and I’m licensed in VA, DC and MD.

I have been involved with the PTA through volunteering at different events that are prepared throughout the year. This year I co-chaired the Family Fun Night, and I have been a “Room Mom” for 2 years.

I have come to realize the importance of the PTA in our children’s education, especially in these challenging times. As a Treasurer, I would be looking into the best and more efficient ways of handling our monetary resources.

I have a second grader and a kindergartener at Westbriar Elementary. For the past two years I haveI looked forward to the monthly PTA meetings not just to avoid bedtime at home, but to find out what is happening at our school. Mrs. Martino is always there to update us and we also benefit from a teacher representative who shares news with us. Having taught in Fairfax County I know parents are very involved in their children's education. Joining the PTA is an excellent way to help give back to our great school and teachers.
