Who: Westbriar students in 2^nd through 6^th grades. Beginners who have never played chess before and experienced players!

When: Westbriar Spring Chess Club will be starting on Tuesday, January 24th to May 15th.  Classes will meet on Tuesdays in the cafeteria from 4:00 – 5:15 PM, and will run for 15 classes.

Why play chess: Chess is great mental exercise for children and involves multi-level critical thinking. Chess improves problem-solving skills and teaches concentration and self discipline. Chess promotes good sportsmanship. Chess is fun!

Who will teach: The Chess Club will be run under the direction of the U.S. Chess Center. The U.S. Chess Center will provide a well trained Chess teacher to teach the basics and advance strategies for the game of chess.

How do I join: Register by Monday, January 23rd. Cost for New Members:  $75.00  ($70 for PTA members) and includes a Chess Club t-shirt.  Returning members who already have their t-shirts:  $65 ($60 for PTA members). Financial assistance is available. The PTA will provide all materials, Chess Club t-shirt, and light snacks and end of the session pizza party.
