Who: Westbriar students in 2^nd through 6^th grades. Beginners who have never played chess before and experienced players!

When: Westbriar Chess Club will be starting on Tuesday, January 18th.  Classes will meet on Tuesdays in the cafeteria from 4:00 – 5:15 PM, and will run for 15 classes.

Why play chess: Chess is great mental exercise for children and involves multi-level critical thinking. Chess improves problem-solving skills and teaches concentration and self discipline. Chess promotes good sportsmanship. Chess is fun!

Who will teach: The Chess Club will be run under the direction of the U.S. Chess Center. The U.S. Chess Center will provide a well trained Chess teacher to teach the basics and advance strategies for the game of chess.

How do I join: Register by January 25th. The cost is $75 for new players (includes Chess Club t-shirt), $65 for returning players.  PTA members will receive a $5 discount.  Financial assistance is available. The PTA will provide all materials, Chess Club t-shirt, and light snacks and end of the session pizza party.

Refund policy: Refund requests must be received seven days before the beginning of classes to be issued in full. Any refund requests made thereafter (up to halfway through the class) will include the fees for the remaining classes less a $25.00 processing fee. No refunds will be issued after the class has ended or after more than half the class has progressed.
